The New Songs of the Ceiba 2010

AMEP is proud to present its sixth program associated with cultural expressions in native languages spoken in Mexico. This program was previously presented three times by Casa Ciudad de Mexico, then chaired by Claudia Herrmann, and who is now the current CVO of USA AMEP Foundation.

While the names of the programs have changed from "Words of the True Peoples" to "The New Songs of The Ceiba" to its current iteration "The Return of Our Word", they are based on a Contemporary Mayan Literature Anthology by Dr. Donald Frischmann, Professor of Spanish, TCU, Texas
and Carlos Montemayor, Writer, Mexico, deceased in 2010.

The programs commence with the performance of prehispanic music and rituals, and songs from the “Nueva Trova Yucateca”, they continue with a presentation of by Dr. Donald Frischmann (TCU) and reading of in Mayan and other indigenous languages by the famous native writers, with simultaneous English and Spanish translations, and the performance of Maya Baktun: El Umbral, created by Patricia Urbina and performed by Flor Candela Theatre Company.  At the end of the programs there are book signings by the authors and a cocktail with a tasting of Yucatec food, and tequila at the conclusion of the event.

This Program is presented with the sponsorship of and hosting by the Latino Cultural Center and other sponsors.
